The global accountancy market has a total value of approximately $500 billion and employs more than 600,000 people worldwide.

For several years, this industry sector has been dominated by the ‘Big Four’: the world’s top accounting firms, namely EY, Deloitte, KPMG and PwC.

That is not to say that there aren’t other important players. In this updated list, we offer an overview of the top 50 accounting firms that take the spotlight at a global level (listed in alphabetical order).

One of Britain’s longest-established firms, with over 150 years of experience. Offers a range of services including cloud accounting, tax consultancy and management accounts.

2. Baker Tilly International

This Chicago-based company has an international presence, with member firms in nearly 150 countries. It's often listed among the top certified public accountancy companies in the US.

3. BDO

During the first quarter of 2019, BDO merged with Moore Stephens, becoming the fifth-largest accounting company in the UK. The company is a member of BDO Global, an accountancy network with a presence in more than 160 countries and headquartered in Belgium.

4. Bebgbies Traynor

This British firm has its headquarters in Manchester and has been operating for almost 30 years. Begbies Traynor is known for its strong know-how in corporate restructuring, which is provided at each of its 75 UK offices.

5. BKD

BKD is a Missouri-based firm that has more than 2,600 employees. It has experienced rapid expansion following a number of acquisitions of financial and accountancy firms across the US.

6. Buzzacott

Based in the City of London, this firm has been operating for almost a century. Over the decades, it has developed strong acumen in areas like corporate finance, outsourcing, audits and taxation. It is also a member of Prime Global, which gives it international exposure.

7. Cherry Bekaert

Headquartered in Virginia, this firm is the second-largest chartered public accountancy company in the southeast of the US. Cherry Bekaert mainly offers assurance, wealth management, tax and advisory services.

8. Citrin Cooperman

With headquarters in Manhattan, this full-service accountancy firm primarily serves clients in government, legal, healthcare, manufacturing, non-profit and logistics sectors. The company was founded in 1979 and ranks among the 25 largest accounting firms in the US.

9. Cohen & Co.

Cohen & Co. has its headquarters in Cleveland and is one of the largest chartered public accountancy firms in the US. The company provides accounting support in areas like investment, business development and financial management.

10. CRI

Since its foundation in 1997, CRI has grown to become one of the top 100 accounting firms in the US. The firm offers services in auditing, risk management and financial planning.

11. Crowe Horwath

With headquarters in Chicago, Crowe Horwath often appears in the list of top accounting firms in the world and has a portfolio that includes risk and performance consulting, advisory, tax and audit services.

12. Deloitte

In 2018, Deloitte topped the list of the biggest accountancy firms in the world and was also listed among the five largest private companies in the US. Its tax, audit, assurance and advisory services are available to companies in the consumer, finance, government, energy, technology and healthcare industries.

13. Doeren Mayhew

This chartered public accountancy firm provides its services to mid-size companies in over 100 different business sectors. Key specialisations include dental CPA, litigation support, strategic advisory and fraud services.

26. KPMG

In 2018, KPMG was the world’s fourth-biggest accounting firm. Audit and advisory services account for nearly 80% of KPMG’s revenues, although it is also recognised for its expertise in risk management and international tax.

27. Kreston Menon

This Dubai-based firm is part of a global network of independent accountancy firms and is also the leading accounting company in the Middle East. Kreston Menon mainly provides bookkeeping, compliance, risk management and FAAS services.

28. Macquarie Group

This Australian financial management firm has a dedicated accounting practice in London, where it runs its EMEA operations. Macquarie’s accounting division boasts strong specialisms in asset management and financial accounting.

29. Marcum LLP

Marcum is one of the top five US firms based on total revenue. The firm is headquartered in New York but also has a presence in Ireland, China and Grand Cayman, and specialises in valuation, litigation support, tax and business advisory.

30. Mazars

Originally founded in France, Mazars now has an established global presence and is known for its strong sector expertise in aerospace, banking, media, real estate and insurance.

33. MHA MacIntyre Hudson
